Nike, H&M und Zara.
Das Marktvolumen mit Produkten aus Biobaumwolle ist von 245.000
US-Dollar im Jahr 2001 auf 3,2 Millionen US-Dollar im Jahr 2008
gestiegen. Für 2009 liegen die Schätzungen bei rund 4 Million Dollar. In
diesem Jahr sollen die 5 Millionen geknackt werden. Das geht aus dem
Biobaumwoll-Bericht von Organic Exchange aus dem vergangenen Jahr
hervor. Durch gentechnisch manipuliertes Saatgut kann die Ernte von
Baumwolle insbesondere im ersten Jahr stark gesteigert werden, zugleich
sind die Pflanzen resistenter gegen Parasiten.
