Über 50 Millionen Farmer in über 100 Ländern sind in den Baumwollanbau involviert. Für die Herstellung eines T-Shirts aus konventioneller Baumwolle kommen dabei etwa 150 Gramm Pestizide zum Einsatz. Etwa 1500 Modemarken und Einzelhändler verwehren sich dagegen und haben im Jahr 2009 Biobaumwolle in ihren Produkten eingesetzt.  Die größten Abnehmer von Biobaumwolle sind der Einzelhandelsriese Wal-mart sowie C&A, Nike, H&M und Zara.

 

Das Marktvolumen mit Produkten aus Biobaumwolle ist von 245.000 US-Dollar im Jahr 2001 auf 3,2 Millionen US-Dollar im Jahr 2008 gestiegen. Für 2009 liegen die Schätzungen bei rund 4 Million Dollar. In diesem Jahr sollen die 5 Millionen geknackt werden. Das geht aus dem Biobaumwoll-Bericht von Organic Exchange aus dem vergangenen Jahr hervor. Durch gentechnisch manipuliertes Saatgut kann die Ernte von Baumwolle insbesondere im ersten Jahr stark gesteigert werden, zugleich sind die Pflanzen resistenter gegen Parasiten.

Überblick und Analyse”, die das Institut für Ökonomie und Ökumene Südwind herausgegeben hat. Die Studie bietet eine Übersicht zur Geschichte sozial-ökologischen Denkens im Textil-und Bekleidungssektor, benennt die gegenwärtigen Akteure und zeigt Trends sowie Schwachstellen auf.

Fozia ist wirklich wundervoll und die Sachen sind Fair Trade und auch GOTs zertifiziert. Wir haben den Strampler auch in Deutschland gefunden:
